CHOU TAI-CHUN

Biography

 

Born in Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1986, CHOU TAI-CHUN received his MFA in Fine Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2012. He currently lives and works in Taipei.

Beginning with painting and gradually expanding into painting-based installations, Chou’s practice explores the tension and coexistence between natural environments and human intervention. Through long-term research into Taiwan’s industrial history and changing landscapes, he examines the evolving relationships between people, land, and the environment, revealing how they continuously shape one another.

He has participated in artist residencies at the OCI Museum in Seoul (2017), BankART Studio NYK in Yokohama, Japan (2017), and Pier-2 Art Center in Kaohsiung (2026). In 2022, he received the Grand Prize of the Austronesian International Art Award, which initiated his long-term research project in eastern Taiwan. Since then, he has undertaken residencies at Makotaay Eco Art Village in Hualien and the Taiwan Good Foundation × Chishang Granary Art Museum in Taitung, as well as a three-year residency project at Er-Lu Art Studio in Hualien.

His works are included in the collections of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and the White Rabbit Gallery, Australia.

周代焌，1986年生於臺灣新竹，2012年畢業於國立臺北藝術大學美術創作碩士班，現居住、創作於臺北。創作從平面繪畫逐步延伸至繪畫裝置，持續關注自然環境與人為介入之間的張力與共存關係，並透過臺灣產業歷史與地貌變遷的研究，探討人、土地與環境之間持續變動與相互形塑的過程。

曾於2017年韓國首爾OCI Museum、日本橫濱BankART Studio NYK、2026年高雄駁二藝術特區等地駐村。2022年獲得「南島國際藝術獎」首獎，展開台灣東部長期研究計劃，曾於花蓮Makotaay Eco Art Village 生態藝術村與台東台灣好基金會x池上穀倉藝術館駐村，並於花蓮兒路創作藝術工寮進行連續三年的駐地創作。作品也曾獲得國立臺灣美術館、臺北市立美術館及澳洲白兔美術館典藏。
